Danny Percell

Danny Percell is a good soldier,
but the atrocity of the war broke his heart and mind.
The pain is unbearable and he tries to find comfort in drugs.
Thanks to the help of his friends, he gets over this difficult moment.
In every mission he risks his life and he always helps his fellow soldiers.
When the time to go home arrives, he is happy,
but also scared about the future that is waiting for him.
Sergeant Anderson reassures him.
Percell admires him very much, and his face lights up
when the Sergeant tells him
that one day he could come to see him.
When Percell arrives home, he finds a job at once.
For one moment he feels a thrill
when he sees a co-worker with oriental features
and his mind goes back to the war.
Percell is pleased when he meets Billie Jean.
He is moved, he talks with her,
saying with pride
that he has been in Vietnam.
Billie jean’s look
becomes ice-cold and she goes away.
The girl’s behavior hurts him deeply.

Percell feels sad and lonely, he understand that
everyone who has been in Vietnam is
now socially excluded,
considered an awkward presence.
He needs to hear a friendly voice,
and he calls his friend Ruiz;
who is feeling the same emotions.
After the first words, there follows a silence,
a silence that is worth more than words.
It reveals the pain and the anguish of
these two young men
who went to war,
who risked their lives and now they are forgotten...
Their thoughts go to their fellow soldiers,
when all together they were respected
and they felt a family.
