Marvin Johnson

Marvin Johnson is a good soldier and friend for his fellow soldiers.
Johnson and Ruiz, laugh when they see the gift of their friend Doc Hock.

After Anderson’s departure, Johnson is upgraded to Sergeant.
He takes to heart this assignment and he is scared that
he will not be up to it.
He is upset when in a mission he loses some young soldiers.
He cries seeing their bodies, he feels guilty for their deaths.

Being afraid to lose other lives,
he commits an error when he mistakes
an orange for a bomb,
frightening a whole village.
All the soldiers leave their food as a sign of forgiveness.

Poor Johnson is broken; his men no longer trust him.
Colonel Brewster reassures him, telling him
that what he did is not wrong.

In a mission where they must save the life of an Australian soldier,
Sergeant Johnson is the one who understands the VC’s trickery,
and he carries out the mission with success;
saving soldier Williamson.

After much danger and pain discharge day arrives.
Johnnson is happy and he has a lot of hopes for the future;
he desires to study, and go to university.
Before leaving, his fellow soldiers greet him and wish him all the best.
It won’t be easy for Johnson to follow his dreams,
he’ll have to fight with grim reality.

On Christmas day, by chance, on TV,
he sees his friends from Vietnam,
interviewed by a journalist.
A mix of emotions fills his heart.
With sadness and joy, he caresses the screen,
when he hears his friends saying his name;
he’d like to embrace them, to be with them again.
